Passed away peacefully at his son Rick’s home in Hillsburgh on Friday, February 15, 2008 in his 82nd year, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Betty (nee Kippax) his wife of 60 years. Loving father of Rick and his wife Wanda of Hillsburgh. Cherished “Big Pop” to Paul and his wife Dawn of Rosemont, Andrea and her fianceé Tim of Guelph. Survived by his siblings, Lloyd and his wife Mary of Shelburne, Bernice Manella and her husband Sam of North Bay, Noreen Larsen and her husband Stiig of Sudbury. Jim will be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, friends and the Burk’s Falls “Coffee Gang.”

Mr. Bates rested at the Opatovsky Funeral Home - Dempster Chapel, Burk’s Falls on Tuesday February 19, 2008. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel commencing at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, Pastor Maureen Ellison officiating.

Spring interment in Burk’s Falls Cemetery.
