Poachers fined $2,700 after shooting deer in farm field
Mar 05, 2008
SUNDRIDGE – A trio of Sundridge-area men were recently fined a total of $2,700 for hunting on private property without permission.

Wesley Raney, 68, and Keith Anderson, 80, were each fined $1,150 for hunting deer on private property, and for possessing and transporting illegally-killed wildlife. Anderson was fined an additional $200 for having a loaded firearm in a vehicle. A third hunter, Allen Prior, 71, was fined $200 for attaching his tag to the illegal deer.

The offence occurred on Nov. 5, 2007. Raney and Anderson spotted the deer in a farm field while driving on Raney Road in Magnetawan. They entered the field, shot the deer and transported it to Prior’s residence, where he attached his deer tag. A hunter on Raney Road heard the shot and notified the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Justice M. Kitlar heard the case in Sundridge provincial court on Feb. 14.
