Excellent service deserves continued funding
Jan 30, 2008
To the Editor:

About a year ago I found that I suddenly had some serious health problems. Having retired 15 years ago, I had not required medical services during this period and therefore did not have a doctor in the area. I attended the Burk’s Falls and District Health Centre. My condition required several day visits and a great deal of followup treatment.

One nurse practitioner took a great deal of interest in my care and made sure that I had the followup care during the holiday season. Each of the doctors, nurses, dieticians, receptionists and ambulance drivers who treated me gave me the best of care and consideration, even though I was new to all of them.

When speaking with friends and neighbours in the area I find that all who attend the centre have the same opinion that I do.

This treatment even made me feel better about the exorbitant tax grab and dishonesty that Premier McGuinty gave us. Now I find that with all these extra dollars we will not have enough funds to continue with the centre as it exists. We are told that our care is constantly improving, obviously another falsehood.

Our centre should and must be permanently funded. You may not have needed their services yet, but from experience one day you will.

It is time to tell our local councils, our MP, our MPP and the Minister of Health of Ontario that this small rural community requires and demands this health centre.

It is also time that the community that is served by the health centre sponsors an appreciation day for our health care givers.

Our health care centre needs and deserves your support. Make sure you give it on every occasion possible.

P.S. The time has come for Mr. Barry Lockhart to start making a guarantee that the health centre will be permanently funded every year.
