Reversing doesn't make the mistake any smaller

To the Editor:

This letter is in regard to the article in the Jan. 9th issue of the Almaguin News titled "Bus Transfer given a failing Grade." There was a comment in the article that rings in my head: "You always get an idiot who doesn't stop."

Well, let’s talk idiots. I was picking my daughter up from school on Friday and that gave me a chance to witness the new bus change(s) for myself. I also got the chance to watch one of the "idiots who doesnt stop."  The person drove right past the flashing lights of the school bus(es). When someone yelled out that she didn’t stop (or when) she herself realized that the flashing lights were on and children were getting on the bus, she then stopped and BACKED UP past the full length of the bus and flashing lights and the crossing guard.

Like that made what she did right.

When questioned I heard her say "she didn’t say see the lights were on."

I didn't hear the whole conversation, I didnt need to. There should not have been any excuse; it should not have happened!

If she had hurt someone because she didn’t see the lights were on, would backing up past them again make it right?

These are our kids; hers, mine and yours. They deserve a right to be safe coming and going to and from school. People need to be alert especially in the school zone. Isn’t taking a few extra minutes worth the life of a child? And if you’re in that much of a hurry, for God’s sake take the other route around the school.
