Community policing doesn't mean lax enforcement

Apparently Thorne’s idea of Community Policing, (“Community policing doesn’t fit with Rose’s ticket,” Dec. 19 edition of Almaguin News) is that of arbitrary enforcement according to personal status.

Norval Rose chose not to wear his helmet and received a ticket as a result. Though punitive at the outset, the ticket might someday prove to be the motivation he needed to protect himself from injury or death.

Community policing is all about saving people from others as well as themselves. After reading the article on Rose, I can’t help but wonder, though, if this genteel individual didn’t just talk himself into the ticket in the first place. The article did paint him as one who spent the better part of his life advocating disruption and disdaining authority. Hmmmm. . .
