Almaguin Minor Hockey Midget Ice Devil Kelsey Preston puts in a strong showing at the Muskoka-Parry Sound All Star Game in Parry Sound. The South beat the North beat a score of 7 to 3.
Midget: The Midgets played host to the Bracebridge A team in Sundridge on Friday night. Almaguin fell behind early in the game when Bracebridge notched a couple of quick goals and the team never really recovered defensively or offensively. Bracebridge took a commanding 5-2 lead in the first. Almaguin’s Greg Arnold netted their first goal with help from Corey Rogers and Zach Attwell and Jason Chapman blasted a slap shot from the point with the assist going to Greg Arnold. These two first period goals were all that Almaguin could muster and Bracebridge took a commanding lead in the second. The Ice Devils just fell flat with no jump to their game and Bracebridge dominated the score board. The Ice Devils were unable to dig out and lost handily to the visitors.

The team rallied together the following day as they faced the top ranked Parry Sound squad in Sundridge for an afternoon game. Ryan Whitney took his place between the pipes and made some very impressive saves early on to help keep the team on track and in the game. Almaguin was short-handed when Parry Sound pounced on a couple of rebounds to finally get one past the net minder. Parry Sound was ahead 2-0 when Greg Arnold took a nice slap shot from the top of the circle, capitalizing on the play with some help from Brody Brimacombe and Madison Scott. Parry Sound hit a goal post and the cross bar and it was still 2-1 going into the second. Ryan was on his game and the Parry Sound goalie was making some nice saves as both teams battled for puck control. Brody Brimacombe tied it up when he took a beauty shot that landed in the net with help from Greg Arnold and Jason Chapman. Parry Sound would not give up lightly and made it 3-2 late in the third. Eric Langford tied it up on a nice high shot that was a text book play with help on a nice pass from Jason Chapman and Brody Brimacombe. Parry Sound went up by a goal in this tight race and Almaguin had numerous chances on the power play as Parry Sound ran into penalty problems and lost focus on the game. Even with a couple of 5 on 3 and power play opportunities the Ice Devils could not seem to find the back of the net and ended up on the wrong end of a close 4-3 game.

On behalf of the Almaguin Minor Hockey executives, season’s greetings and a special thank you to all hockey parents for their support in 2007. Have a save and happy holiday. See you rink side in 2008.
