SUNDRIDGE – The Sundridge Chaos women’s hockey team is getting organized with the new season, and are sharing in the growth of local hockey opportunities for girls and young women.

The women’s hockey team, proudly sponsored by Zak’s of Sundridge, draws players from across Almaguin.

The team has decided to forward proceeds from last year’s annual February tournament to a variety of community organizations. Recipients of the total of $1,000 included the Sundridge-Strong Volunteer Fire Department and the Sundridge Strong Joly (SSJ) Arena.

They’re also giving support to young women and female hockey players.

Early this season, the team contributed to the tournament fees of Almaguin’s new Ontario Women’s Hockey Association peewee team, the Gazelles.

Next on the gift list, one lucky local girl will receive a $300 sponsorship toward hockey camp tuition in 2008.

The team invites Almaguin-area girls between the ages of 10 and 18 to submit an application, available at the SSJ arena and Zak’s.

Applications are due by Jan. 15. The winner will be chosen by random draw and will be announced by the beginning of February.

The Chaos team will be bringing more than 250 female players into the area for this season’s tournament, scheduled Feb. 15 to 17.

More than 25 per cent of their proceeds will again be distributed within the local community.

While specific recipients are yet to be determined, the tournament is sure to provide financial support for girl’s hockey. The tournament is also a chance to check out some inspiring women’s hockey.
