Violence in airport letter disturbing
Nov 14, 2007
To the Editor:

RE: Letter to the Editor in the Nov. 7, 2007 edition titled ‘Why is one man’s dream costing taxpayers so much?’ by William Douglas.

I am appalled with the recent Letter to the Editor and corresponding ad that appeared in the Almaguin News, Nov. 7, written by Mr. Bill Douglas. It was quite disturbing, to say the least. It is the unwarranted vehmenence that I find extremely frightening.

It would be a good idea when going so violently public that Mr. Douglas gets his facts straight.

My husband, Barry Morris, as a councilor of the Village of Sundridge and chair of the airport committee, has poured countless personal hours of hard work into the commercial development of the airport.

The commercial development of the airport would only add to the tax base with the added taxes from the leased hangars. The increased tax base would only benefit the community by bringing in more taxes, thus would not burden the taxes of the existing taxpayers. Not only that, but it would create jobs for our youth, negating them having to move away from home for work.

It would increase property sales to city workers who can fly in for a weekend at their “country” residence, and it would provide revenue dollars to the merchants in our towns from these visitors who have to buy supplies. In addition, there are countless other ripple effects and benefits to our community and its businesses.

I would suggest that Mr. Douglas get a grip on reality and not attack someone personally for doing his job.

I, personally, would like to have my husband at home with me rather than his working so passionately at a job he undertook when it subjects him to this type of unwarranted and frightening behaviour.
