Gettin' muddy for the love of sports

As you all know, our sports teams are a huge source of pride for us here at Almaguin Highlands. Already our teams are off to an exceptional start.

The junior girls’ basketball team has begun their season with an amazing start, winning all three games they have played.

When playing St. Dominic’s Catholic School and Gravenhurst High School, the team found themselves taking the lead quickly and celebrating two wins.

But their match against Bracebridge high school did not come as easily. Bracebridge proved to be very determined to win. With the game close and our skills evenly matched, the girls worked together as a team and were able to complete another successful win. Congratulations girls!

Our volleyball teams dove right into their seasons, and our junior and senior boys’ team are undefeated, Almaguin is the team to beat! Both teams have celebrated wins against Gravenhurst High, St. Dominic’s, and Parry Sound.

Faculty and students here at the school wish the boys luck at their upcoming tournament at Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie on Oct. 19 and 20. Let’s see some more wins!

Boys soccer has also started, and the players have made our school proud with their great team work and positive attitudes. The junior and senior boys played against Huntsville High School with Mother Nature not wanting to co-operate. The fields were soaked with mud and the rain came and went as it pleased. In the end, the team came up short but still had a great game — and were able to get muddy for the sport they love. With an upcoming game against Parry Sound and the playoffs around the corner, excitement is brewing and the boys are practising hard.

Each and every member of our school’s sports teams deserves a round of applause, as they have shown outstanding school spirit. With more games to come, we are sure all of our teams will continue to do well and play their best.
