It's our public transit
Oct 10, 2007
A lifeline to the Highlands has been cut off for more than a week now and there still has not been a peep from our provincial politicians responsible for it.

The publicly-owned Ontario Northland Transportation Commission is public transit  in Almaguin. Along the Hwy. 11 corridor its buses are the only cost effective means of getting to and from points A and B.

And yet, in the heat of a provincial election nary a word has been said about the disruption of service.

Why is this?

Is there some thought that this is just an auxillary service, more for convenience than any real purpose?

We disagree.

The lack of comment from provincial candidates in both Parry Sound-Muskoka and Nipissing ridings shows the real disconnect between those running and those who live in the most rural areas of their districts.

If this was a big city transit strike during an election, surely politicians there would be stepping over one another to, at the very least, appear to be working toward a solution.

It should be no different here.
