BURK’S FALLS – Customers will be seeing red if they visit a local grocery store on Fridays.
Employees at Collins’ Valu-mart in Burk’s Falls have started donning crimson shirts on Fridays, in an effort to show their support for Canadian troops.
“We’ve got a couple of families affected directly (through loved ones serving overseas) that work at the store,” said owner Jeff Collins.
Employee Michelle Patman said that the store’s bakery manager saw a program on television about the Red Friday movement, an effort that sees people from all over sporting red on Fridays to show support for the troops.
Starting Sept. 21, the employees were all decked out in Royal Canadian Legion “Support Our Troops” tees, donated by Collins.
They’ll be wearing them each Friday, Collins said, “until they (the troops) come home safe.
The employees believe that they are the first business in the area to participate in the ever-growing campaign.
But they would like to see more red locally.
Patman said they’re challenging other businesses to adopt the Friday dress code.
She said having locals wear the shirts will show local support and let the troops know there are people rooting for them here at home.
