Sundridge offers last chance for fair fun

ALMAGUIN – The Strong Agricultural Society invites you to the 123rd annual Sundridge Fall Fair. It runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The fun starts tonight at 7 p.m., when the arena opens up. A variety show, featuring local talent and the Simcoe County Cloggers, begins at 7:30 p.m.
There will also be an auction for jams and jellies, exhibits of needlework, vegetables, flowers and junior entries, as well as door prizes.
The arena will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, when a light horse show, a poultry show and judging of sheep, swine, goats and cattle will begin. At 10:30 a.m. the parade begins. This year’s theme is ‘Learn to Grow and Grow to Learn.’ The parade begins at Sundridge Centennial Public School. Judging and formation will start there at 9:30 a.m.
The fair will be officially opened at 11 a.m. with Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller and the community volunteer of the year.
At 11:30 a.m., there will be a mutt show, at noon, a nail-driving competition and at 1 and 3 p.m., Icelandic horse demonstrations. At 2 p.m., the pony pull and bale toss begin, and at 2:30 p.m., the kids’ hay scramble for cash gets underway.
An educational alpaca display and performances by the Northern Lights Steel Orchestra will also run throughout the day.
The Heritage House will host activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including old time music, kids’ story time and demonstrations of plate painting, rug hooking and sewing.
On Friday night and Saturday inflatable amusements and paintball target practice will also be available.
The fair wraps up on Sunday with a community church service at 2 p.m. It will be held upstairs at the arena.
Gate prices for Friday and Saturday are $3 for adults and $1 for children under 12.
