Future-thinkers needed to help us conserve
Aug 29, 2007
To the Editor:

Andy Campbell’s feature ‘Walking on Sunshine’ (Almaguin News Aug. 15, 2007 edition) made many points in favour of going renewable (solar). For those on high ground or lakesides, wind will also be your long-term friend – as well as sunlight. Eventually, we will all go solar/wind for electrical generation because nuclear’s a financial timebomb, not to mention a mega-polluter (nuclear waste is planet Earth’s ultimate poison that’ll be around after infinity).

The most salient point was Frank Shillolo’s alert that we must learn to conserve regardless of our access to sun-power (or wind) because we’ve been spoiled brats living with subsidized cheap power while the nuclear debt incurred by Ontario Hydro (now Ontario Power Generation) accrues at a rate of a thousand dollars per minute. At some point, the fantasy of the so-called peaceful atom sold to us by Bill Davis and his successors in concert with  the Canadian Nuclear Association must go kaput, bang, bankrupt, Fininsky!

Frank Shillolo is a future-thinker who should be touring schools to educate all about where we’re headed.

Too bad John Tory’s Conservatives have conserved and McGuinty’s Liberals only amounted to Conservatives with less vitriol. We need good future-thinking governments to lead us to a long-term, non-polluting, renewable energy-future.

The obvious choice is anyone but the aforementioned clones of each other.
